Drive Smart Initiative
Program Objectives
- Raise Awareness
- Help youth and adults understand the consequences of reckless driving, including statistics, personal stories, and the impact on families and communities through social media, public speaking, virtual workshops and marketing.
- Promote Safe Driving Habits
- Educate youth and adults on responsible driving practices through workshops and discussions that focus on defensive driving, the importance of seat belts, the dangers of distractions and impaired driving and more.
- Community Engagement and Empowerment
- Create safe driving advocates and ambassadors through discussions and activities that empower them to become advocates speak up and educate their peers on the need for safe driving in their communities.
- Partnership Development
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, schools, and community organizations, creating cross education opportunities, a network of support and a national web of advocates and allies.
Program Structure
- Target Audience:
- Teens (high school students)
- College students
- Adults (parents and community members)
- Program Components:
- Host interactive sessions at schools, colleges, community centers and virtually.
- Real-life stories from victims and families affected by reckless driving.
- Peer-to-Peer Mentorship: Establish a mentorship program where older students or community members can share their experiences.
- Community Events: such as "Drive Smart Days" where participants can engage in safe driving simulations and participate in discussions about safe driving practices.
- Partnerships with Local Authorities: Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to provide guest speakers, distribute materials, and possibly co-host educational events.
- Resource Distribution: Create and distribute easily accessible and available educational materials such as brochures, flyers, partner organizations and digital content promoting safe driving habits.
- Evaluation and Feedback:
- Continually collect feedback from participants to assess the effectiveness of the program and make necessary adjustments.
- Use surveys, focus groups, and follow-up sessions to gauge changes in attitudes and behaviors regarding reckless driving.
- Review of programs and outcomes at the annual Board planning meeting.
- Regular discussions with partners, key stakeholders and law enforcement to discover the ongoing needs in the communities for safe driving awareness and the ways we can fill the voids.
- Funding Request:
- To implement the "Drive Smart" initiative, we are seeking funding to cover:
- Educational materials and resources
- Venue rentals for workshops and events
- Marketing and outreach efforts
- Compensation for guest speakers and facilitators
- Evaluation and assessment tools
