Our Mission

To bring awareness to reckless driving

Our Vision

We will decrease loss of lives due to reckless and distractive driving by raising awareness now and for future generations.

The foundation’s goals are:

  1. Reform, strengthen and modernize Mississippians' thinking and understanding of reckless driving and its impact on citizens and families

  2. Encourage sound and sustainable options for educating and understanding of reckless driving

  3. Make the JJD Foundation an innovative and responsive organization to work with the Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies to help in the education and awareness process

  4. To positively impact the academic success of students at Jackson State University and raise funds for the Josten J. Day Annual Scholarship.

  5. Help move Mississippi and the nation to an informed understanding of the urgency and awareness of reckless driving

History

In April 2018, Josten J. Day at the age of 25 was killed in an accident caused by a reckless driver, driving on the wrong side of the road.  Josten was driving north on Highway 51 in Canton, MS when the driver of a southbound car forced him off the road. His car hit an embankment and flipped several times, and the driver did not stop.

Josten was a junior at Jackson State University pursuing a degree in Physical Education and Recreation.  A kind and generous young man, who never met a stranger, Josten enjoyed his life, his family, and his community.  He was an all-around athlete, participating in soccer, football, baseball and basketball at Terry High School and at Holmes Community College.  Josten was a joy to know and only wanted the best for family, friends, and his fellowman.

In 2018, Josten’s mom, Latasha established the “Josten J. Day” (JJD) Foundation to raise awareness of reckless driving after the loss of her son Josten, by a reckless driver. Reckless driving causes 33% of all deaths involving major car accidents, which occurs, more than 13,000 times a year. The JJD Foundation is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers who believe that the AWARENESS of reckless driving can help in preventing another loss of life.
